The Israel-Hamas conflict, a decades-long struggle rooted in territorial disputes, political ideologies, and religious differences, has once again reached a critical juncture. Recent reports indicate that Israel is attempting to work with Hamas to broker a lasting end to the hostilities.

However, the path to peace is fraught with obstacles: mutual distrust, historical grievances, and competing claims to the land.

Mossad’s Slogan: "War Through Deception"

Israel’s national intelligence agency, Mossad, operates under an unofficial motto: "By way of deception, thou shalt do war." This phrase, inspired by the biblical story of Samson and Delilah, encapsulates Mossad’s approach to achieving strategic objectives through cunning and misdirection.

The agency has a storied history of covert operations, psychological warfare, and disinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing adversaries, including Palestinian militant groups like Hamas.

While this doctrine has proven effective in securing Israel’s interests—such as thwarting attacks or gathering critical intelligence—it has also deepened the mistrust between Israel and Hamas.

Hamas views Israel’s reliance on deception as evidence that diplomatic overtures cannot be taken at face value, a perception that undermines any potential peace talks. For Israel, this strategy is a necessary tool in a region surrounded by hostile entities, but it remains a double-edged sword in the context of reconciliation.
