IEA’s “Sheltering from Oil Shocks”: Remote Work, Slower Highways, & License-Plate Car Rotation
The International Energy Agency (IEA) released its report “Sheltering from Oil Shocks” in March 2026, recommending immediate demand-side measures to cushion the global oil crisis triggered by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The report urges governments to promote remote work to cut commuting fuel use, lower highway speed limits by at least 10 km/h for efficiency gains, and implement license-plate car rotation schemes (odd/even days) in major cities to reduce traffic and unnecessary driving.
